HOSPICE CARE

COMFORT & COMPASSIONATE CARE

At the heart of hospice care is the belief that each of us has the right to die free of pain and with dignity and that our families should receive the kind of support that allows us to do so.

This is what the care at Hospice of the Golden Isles is all about. We understand what Americans feel are most important to a loved one who has less than six months to live, according to research conducted by the National Hospice Foundation:

  • Someone to be sure that the patient’s wishes are honored;

  • Choice among the types of services the patient can receive;

  • Pain control tailored to the patient’s wishes; and

  • Emotional support for the patient and family.

According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, in 1999, hospice care was provided to at least 700,000 patients. Today, 1.48 million Americans, or 41% receive hospice care in their final stage of life. Clearly, as Americans learn more about hospice, they are recognizing that it’s the kind of care they want and need.

Considered to be the model for quality, compassionate care at the end-of-life, hospice care involves a team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support expressly tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Support is extended to the patient’s loved ones, as well.
